Place: Rudolfinum — Suk Hall
Alšovo nábřeží 12, Praha 1, Czech Republic [show details]
Rudolfinum is the second most significant Neo-Renaissance building after the National Theatre in Prague. It was built in the second half the 19th century by J. Zítek and J. Schulz and it was named in honour of Rudolf of Habsburk. It was originally designed as an art gallery and House of Artists. From 1918 to 1938 and a short period after the World War II it also housed the Czechoslovak Parliament. Rudolfinum is the seat of the famous Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, which was founded in 1896. Nowadays the Rudolfinum is a place of prestigious cultural and social events with a tradition dating from 1885.
The Parnas has been formed in 1990s' as the Parnas Quartet, followed by its larger line-up Parnas Ensemble in 2007, by members of the Prague Symphony Orchestra to fill a void in the Prague musical community for a high–calibre chamber group performing both light classical and ballroom dance music. Critics have stressed their brilliant art, their virtuosity and sense for a polished dramaturgy of individual performances.
